Abstract

This Online learning in higher education requires the optimal use of Learning Management Systems (LMS), not only as tools for delivering learning materials but also as platforms for managing structured learning processes. This study aims to describe the process of LMS development in the Educational Technology course and to explore students’ experiences, challenges, and perceived benefits during the process. This research employed a qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews. The findings indicate that LMS development was initially perceived as challenging due to limited technical understanding and the shift in students’ roles from LMS users to learning administrators. However, through hands-on practice and a gradual learning process, students were able to understand the function of LMS in managing learning materials, learning activities, and assessments systematically. Furthermore, LMS development contributed positively to students’ understanding of online learning as well as to the enhancement of their educational technology skills and digital literacy. Therefore, LMS development in the Educational Technology course can serve as an effective learning experience in preparing students for technology-based learning in higher education.
